Day 1 — My Personality
You’ve probably heard of the social penetration theory where it compares relationship development to an onion. As you peel off the layer, each person will reveal deeper and more private parts of him/herself. Since my writing still needs a little brushing, I will refer to this model as a guide to describe my personality.
The outermost layer of the onion describes biographical data. My name is Tiffani. Some call me Tiff but others call me Fani (I prefer the earlier nickname nowadays). I am 24 going on 25. I currently reside in Jakarta but consider Bandung as my hometown.
The second layer describes my preferences. One word to describe my current style is “Casual Chic”. I stick to neutral colors and similar silhouettes since I am not fond of experimenting with clothes. Perhaps it’s my body insecurity that keeps me from going out of my comfort zone.
Thankfully, I am more adventurous when it comes to music. I grew up listening to 70’s legends such as Queen, Aerosmith, and Eagles, all thanks to my father. Like many, I joined the pop-punk train and listened to All Time Low, MCR, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore during my teenage years. However, I was also and am a proud Swifties and Belieber.
When I am alone in my room, I will belt out Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilera frequently. I name this category ‘Power Pop’ because it technically requires impeccable technique to nail the songs but who really cares? In the end, they all are pop songs that topped the top 40 charts.
I honestly can talk on and on about music. As of now, I am trying to listen to more Indonesian artists especially the up-and-coming ones. My pick me up song lately is Bukan Main by Kay Oscar ft Laze. Such a bop!
Even though I am eating more plant-based now, my preference for food is not that complicated. I can eat pretty much the same thing every single day. When I am trying to be healthy, I would get myself a vegetarian bowl from The Good Habit. When I am tired of eating healthy, I’ll get myself a cheese ultimate pizza (with thin crust) from Domino’s.
But, if I have to pick what I want to eat for the rest of my life, it’d be a bowl of warm rice with my mom’s telor balado and sayur kangkung.
For the more private parts of the onion, I will try to summarize them in one paragraph. Why? Because it’s uncomfortable as heck to talk about. My goals and aspirations in life are simply to have enough so I can feel enough. No more, no less. Just the right amount. I believe in God and am a Muslim but I don’t follow all the rules (Sorry mom and dad!). My deepest fear is to die without any accomplishment or die from a painful death like being burned alive. My biggest fantasy is to earn money without actually working. No no! Not to have a job that feels like I’m not working but to actually not have a job yet still manage to get paid.
Last but certainly not least, describing my concept of self. I believe that your 20s is the perfect time to figure out this concept. I have a rough idea of who I am as a person but I am certain that it will probably change at least until I am 30. Why 30? I’m not sure myself, but it feels like the age where you figure out most things in life.
So here it is, me in a nutshell. This sounds cliche but I do feel that I have grown a lot. At the very least, I hope that my 5-year-old self is proud of who I have become.
